LymphaVision is a FDA approved medical device that promotes the flow of body fluids such as blood and lymph by stimulation (pumping) of smooth muscle within veins, arteries and lymphatic vessels using a very specific patented electro-stimulation frequency.
The treatment involves attaching to the appropriate part of the patient's body a number of electrodes which apply a mild transdermal (through skin) electrical stimulus.
Patients may experience a light tingling sensation, felt through the skin under the administered electrode and a minor muscle twitch may occur indicating the stimulation effect. Treatment is very comfortable.
The LymphaVision current reproduces the autonomic nervous system message sent to the smooth muscles located between the 2 contact electrodes therefore activating the system's natural peristalsis. The peristalsis corresponds to the cyclic contraction and relaxation of the smooth muscles controlled by both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. As it travels through the various body tissues the LymphaVision current will also stimulate striated skeletal muscles. An increase in current intensity will cause an elementary contraction provoking a muscular pump effect.
This muscular pump action will associate itself to the smooth muscle work and therefore enhance lymphatic and venous return. Activating this pump has an interesting effect in the relaxation of big muscle groups and rapid evacuation of large body fluid accumulation. This purely mechanical action is also helpful to help ganglion action. In this case electrode positioning is crucial and Electrode Positioning Charts are included.
The smooth muscles are found in practically the whole lymphatic system. They are present in the walls of hollow organs (except the heart), in all muscular or distributing arteries, in the walls of the deep vein network but not in the medium and superficial venous network.
